Spottswoode
Estate Vineyard & Winery

Mary Novak, her husband, Jack, and their five children moved to Napa Valley in 1972. After Jack’s untimely death, Mary continued with their shared dream of founding Spottswoode Estate Vineyard & Winery, and in 1982 she made her first vintage of Cabernet Sauvignon. In the years since, Spottswoode has become one of Napa Valley’s defining wineries.

Stewarded by Mary and two of her daughters, Beth and Lindy, Spottswoode has stayed true to a beautiful, elegant, balanced and age-worthy style that captures the character of the vintage and the complexity of Spottswoode’s legendary estate vineyard.

First planted in 1882, the Spottswoode Estate Vineyard is recognized as one of California’s greatest winegrowing sites. Farmed organically since 1985, Spottswoode’s 40 acres of hallowed vines yield some of the world’s most coveted Cabernet Sauvignons. Sought after by collectors, these wines are venerated for their beauty, structure and age-worthiness.

Today, Spottswoode Estate Vineyard & Winery has earned recognition as one of the few wineries with the terroir, tradition and track record of excellence to merit comparisons to the great first-growths of Bordeaux, with Stephen Brooks hailing it as “Margaux meets Napa” in Decanter, Hugh Johnson’s Pocket Wine Book 2016 stating that it’s “on the short list of CA first growths” and Blake Gray hailing it as “Napa Valley’s Chateau Margaux” on Wine-Searcher.com.

Among its numerous honors, the Spottswoode Estate Cabernet Sauvignon holds the rare distinction of having made the coveted Top 20 of Wine Spectator’s annual “Top 100 List” three years in a row, and recently received a perfect 100-point score from Wine Advocate.
