Kosta Browne is a winery located in Sebastopol, California that was started by two friends, Dan Kosta and Michael Browne, who had little more than a shared love of Pinot Noir and the desire to make some of their own. In 1997, the two were able to save enough from their jobs at a local Santa Rosa restaurant to buy their first barrel of Pinot Noir.

Since our founding over twenty years ago, we have been on a mission to seek out California’s most coveted cool—climate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay growing regions, a pursuit that has thus far led us to four distinct regions—the rugged and diverse Sonoma Coast, the foggy Russian River Valley, the chilly Santa Lucia Highlands, and the wild, untamed Anderson Valley.

The Appellation Series wines are inspired by the desire to capture the true essence of each region while working with our longtime grower partners, to harvest from choice vineyards and blocks, as well as from our own estate sites. Within the cellar, we strive to create the ultimate representation of each appellation’s unique energy and character.

Our Grower & Estate Series has the same ethos, to respect the land and allow the sense of place to speak freely through the wines. Yet, they are not blends of more than one vineyard, though they may represent different blocks within a single site. These wines reveal the beautiful range of expression Pinot Noir and Chardonnay develop under varied growing conditions.

As we look toward the future, we remain dedicated to the values our founders Dan and Michael, and their obsession with producing thought-provoking, inspiring wines with the same meticulous approach across grape growing, sourcing, and advanced cellar practices. We are continually humbled by the loyalty and support of our members and remain enthusiastically devoted to sharing our wines with them.
